Talking Talking at CMA National Conference

I received word yesterday that my proposal to present a breakout session at the 2020 CMA National Meeting in San Diego has been accepted!  I’m honored and, in no small way, humbled to be given this opportunity!

The session is entitled: Improving the patient-doctor relationship through communication excellence.  It will be based on my work developing and leading the ACT Program at the U of R with a special emphasis on how communication can help us reclaim [and maintain] the doctor patient relationship.

I hope to see you in sunny San Diego this September!

In Christ,

Tom Carroll
Guild President

Journal Club…by Video Conference!

We had a wonderful Journal Club on January 16th, on the important topic of brain death, facilitated by FLG Board member, Dr. Fernando Ontiveros.

We were very happy to welcome four participants via video, one from the Rochester are and three from Florida!  Among them was our friend, Dr. Felix Rodriguez, President of the Palm Beach Guild. You can check them out on Twitter @PalmBeachCMA.  Please also check out Dr. Rodriguez’s success in founding a Guild of the CMA in Puerto Rico (The Pulse: Fall/Winter 2019)!

Thank you to Dr. Rodriguez and everyone how took part in this Journal Club!

We are hopeful that this will only be the beginning of collaboration among Guild across the country!

Catholics @ URMC 2020

We are excited to kick off 2020 by restarting our Catholics @ URMC meetings!

Catholics @ URMC is a collaboration between the UR Newman Center and the Finger Lakes Guild that aims to bring together Catholics, and non-Catholics, to provide mutual support for those working in the health professions.

We are planning to meet monthly at noon. We will open by praying Sext (the Midday prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours) and then have an open discussion about either a preselected topic or whatever may be on the minds and hearts of those in attendance.

Meeting Schedule:
  • January 7th
  • February 20th
  • March 2nd
  • April 1st

We will meet in the back right section of the Strong Hospital Cafeteria from 12:10 to 12:50pm each of these days.

If you are not familiar with the Liturgy of the Hours fear not, you are not alone! It’s quite easy using the iBreviary app and we’ll all walk through it together.
